RYA Dayskipper Theory (Day Skipper) Classroom/Shorebased, Dorset Marine Training, Monday, 09. September 2019

If you are interested in this course sometime in advance of the course please do not hesitate to contact us directly to reserve a place and we can then organise payment nearer the time.
This course is being run at Port of Poole Marina by our friendly instructor ***.  He is a full time Instructor as well as a Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Sail and Power and loves being on all boats from canoes & dinghies up to Sunseekers and Sail Training Yachts.  He brings a wide range of experience to teaching the course but fundamentally he wants you to achieve your aims and he enjoys making the course as interactive as possible - expect to see inflatable globes and model boats!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us - its important to us that you undertake training most suited to your individual needs.  We teach in small group with a maximum size of 4 for this group so you have plenty of time for *** to work with you individually.  It also enables us to be flexible with course times so long as we are given notice.  If you have an appointment to make we can start later and finish later if needed.  If these course dates don't work for you let us know as we often schedule extra courses, or we may be able to add you to a commercial course or shuffle dates around.

The RYA Dayskipper Theory (shorebased) Course is a great course to increase your navigation and safety knowledge.  It is a perfect step on from the Essential Navigation & Seamanship Course and prepares you for more Advanced Powerboat Courses or the Dayskipper Practical course on Motor Cruisers.  The course is run in the classroom and we usually run this over 6 days but occasionally we run courses over 3 weekends.  The aim of the course is to equip you with sufficient knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day and to give you the confidence to move onto practical courses.   The course also includes an introduction to lights in preparation for a night exercise in more advanced practical courses.
The course is suitable for those who are looking to move onto more advanced powerboat courses, those who wish to take the Dayskipper Practical course, those who are looking to work commercially whether instructing or on coded boats and also for those who wish to study for their own development.
Please note that the course is suitable for both sailors and motor boaters.  Our instructor uses a range of boats and is a Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore for both Power & Sail.  He works as a commercial skipper as well as instructing and sails for both leisure and work including on a youth sail training boat so has relevant examples he can bring into the course.
Course topics include:
The course covers a number of topics including: the basics of seamanship, the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides,  collision regulations, construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat, emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts.

NB. We close bookings online before the event - we still take bookings closer but please contact us direct.  Whenever you book you should receive personalised confirmation directly from us at Dorset Marine Training within 24 hrs with joining information - if this is not received (not been known yet!) please contact us ASAP!  Booking are not confirmed until you receive our email so please do not book accommodation or travel in advance.
