We are a Birmingham based not-for-profit community interest organisation that has been commissioned by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jameison, to deliver a Children & Young People (CYP) project in an attempt to help tackle the serious rise in youth violence across the City by providing them with the tools to become active citizens.
The project will run throughout the whole Whitsun bank holiday week and commences Monday 27th May - Friday 31st May 2019. It is based at the COGOP Community Centre, Broad Road, Acocks Green, B27 7UZ.
The project is entitled 'Positioning Youth to Prosper' (PYP). It's emphasis is on Education, Training, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Business and we will use a variety of activities to bring out the best in young people. Some of the activies include; Drama / Dance / Music / Sports / Fitness Training / Laser / Bowling / Games etc. There will also be group discussions, interactive sessions, information/creative workshops as well as indoor and outdoor sport activities. The daily sessions will include; in-house and external speakers, visiting support agencies and affected parents to assist with educating, informing, encouraging, motivating and transforming the mindsets of the young people towards a positive and productive way of life.
We are looking for approximately 40 young people aged between 8 to 17 years, who live within the City of Birmingham. Therefore places will be based on a first come first served basis.
Although this is a fully inclusive project we particularly want to include young people who fall into at least one of the following categories:

Young people who live in areas associated with gang behaviour;
Young people whose parents are concerned about them being at risk of grooming; carrying weapons or being affiliated with older youths and/or gang members;
Young people on the border of exclusion from school;
Young people with poor school/college attendance;
Young people from single parent households;
Young people from low income households.

The additional criterion for acceptance onto the programme is that all attendees MUST complete the FULL week and participate in the scheduled events. This is to ensure that they gain the full benefit of the project .
Each day will comprise of a morning and afternoon session starting from 10am - 4.30pm and include; lunch and refreshments. We will also provide a breakfast service to assist the nutritional requirements of the CYP on the project ‘in need’ of support in this area. This facility will be available from 8.30am - 9.30am. The project covers the full cost of all meals and activities. All we ask for is an administration fee of £10 per person. All staff hold DBS and Safeguarding Certificates.
This is a fantastic opportunity for young people so don't NOW before spaces run out!!!

All the best
Voice Against Crime Team :)
