This course is ideal for anyone who want to learn the fundamental aspects of welding with MIG equipment.
MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is a semi-automatic welding process that’s easy to learn and use. During this short course, you will develop the skills to perform basic welding operations that will enable you to weld and join.
This basic introduction programme will take place at the College's Portland street Campus over two evenings.
The next available sessions will start on either;
Monday 21st January 2019 with the second evening of the course being delivered on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 or Monday 29th April 2019 with the second evening of the course being delivered on Tuesday 30th April 2019.
Each session is approximately 3 and a half hours and is expected to run from 17:30 until 21:00
You will need to bring safety footwear (steel toe cap boots) and work clothes. All other equipment will be provided.
If for any reason the course does not run on the specified dates, we'll contact you before the event and payment will be refunded in full.
Characteristics of the MIG welding process

Uses a consumable wire electrode during the welding process that is fed from a spool,
Provides a uniform weld bead,
Produces a slag-free weld bead,
Uses a shielding gas, usually – argon, argon - 1 to 5% oxygen, argon - 3 to 25% CO2 and a combination argon/helium gas,
Is considered a semi-automatic welding process,
Allows welding in all positions,
Requires less operator skill than TIG welding,
Allows long welds to be made without starts or stops,
Needs little clean-up.
