Around Rochester - A Tour of an Historic Medway Town, Rochester Railway Station, Saturday, 15. June 2019

Rochester is one of South East Englands most attractive towns and only 35 minutes by train from St Pancras.
On this town tour Rob will tell you stories from Rochester's past, and you'll see many of the outstanding historic buildings, that include Tudor timbered buildings, Georgian terraces, Victorian civic buildings and not one but two bridges across the River Medway. The tour takes in the grounds of the Norman castle that dominates Rochester, and was under siege in 1215. The tour ends at Rochester Cathedral, the second oldest Cathedral in England which posseses fine Norman arches, medieval graffiti and one of Englands finest medieval wall paintings. Rob will also explain the sorry tale of why Rochester is no longer a city!
After the tour you can have lunch in a pub that is mentioned in the Pickwick Papers, or explore the many specialist shops (including one of the UK's largest second hand book shops) or visit one of the three excellent museums in Rochester
This tour is the first of a series exploring the Medway and Kent Coast
