ALERT Course, Centre for Learning And Development, Monday, 25. June 2018
ALERT is a multidisciplinary course in the care of the acutely ill patient that aims to improve:
Recognition of the “at risk” patient and how to respond appropriately
Identification of impending emergencies.
Communication between multidisciplinary teams and ward based nurses & doctors.
Initiation of simple treatments required to prevent the spiralling cascade of multi-organ failure.
This course is suitable for doctors, nurses and physiotherapists.
Content includes: Lectures: Assessing the critically ill patient. Airway & Breathing Assessment. The Hypotensive patient. The patient with a disordered conscious level. The Oliguric patient. The patient in Pain. Communication and Human Factors Sepsis Pain relief
Scenarios: Practical sessions in small groups working through clinical scenarios.
Note: Nurses: ABA Category 1 approval & 7 CEU’s.
St James’s Interns: Required for intern sign off
